Chinese Angelica
Modern Herbalists recommend Chinese Angelica (also known as
Dong Quai) for the treatment of almost every gynaecological
ailment, including menstrual cramps, irregularity or retarded
flow, and weakness during the menstrual period. Dong Quai
is also said to bring relief from the symptoms of menopause,
but should not be used during pregnancy. In addition, it is
thought to be a useful antispasmodic and has value in the
treatment of hypertension. Its reputation also extends to
blood "purification" and "nourishment,"
and finally, to treating constipation.
White Peony
In traditional Chinese medicine White Peony is an extremely
effective tonic herb and is used to purify the blood, which
in turn purifies the skin; in fact, one of the most oft-used
blood tonics has white peony as one of its prime ingredients.
White peony is also used to relax muscles; lower blood pressure;
relieve cramps and spasms (especially menstrual cramps); and
reduce pain.
It is often used in sexual herbal blends for Men or Women
or blends for respiratory system health.
White peony root is the one herb that all by itself will help
with menstrual pain.
The herb white peony nourishes the blood, helps with hot flashes
and night sweats, is anti-spasmodic and helps with cramps.
Indian Bread
Indian Bread is an excellent source of protein and vitamins.
Increasing the amount of protein in your body will provide
additional energy and vitality.
Cnidium Fruit
Cnidium seed is primarily used for the purpose of overcoming
sexual malaise and strengthening sexual potency. The classics
repeatedly mention it as an aphrodisiac. It was used almost
routinely in imperial formulas designed specifically for the
emperor. Cnidium seed was often used in combination with Cuscuta
seed in aphrodisiac formulations, since the two herbs are
believed to work synergistically together and to enhance one
another. It is also used to increase fertility in both men
and women. Cnidium has some astringent quality, which means
that it will help prevent premature ejaculation in men. Furthermore,
Cnidium seed also has disinfectant qualities and may be used
externally as a wash on sores, particularly in the genital
region.
Atractylodes
This common herb is often used to invigorate the spleen and
benefit vital energy. It reduces excess fluid in the stomach
area and is often helpful for fatigue, stiff limbs, night
sweats and will stabilize morning sickness and support the
internal genital region in women to encourage proper lubrication.
Oriental Waterplantain
This Traditional Chinese Herb is an effective generator of
heat to the genital area. Promoting heat and fluid, Oriental
Waterplantain is also known to protect the bladder and urinary
tract.
Dried Tangerine
Modern herbalists recommend Dried Tangerine Peel be used to
stimulate the blood vessels and improve blood flow and function.
It is also known to inhibit movement of the uterus and digestive
tract as well as improve digestion. When used on its own it
can assist in the cessation of vomiting and hiccups, and is
also known as an antibiotic in nature.
Catuaba
Catuaba has a long history of use in herbal medicine as an
aphrodisiac. The Tupi Indians in Brazil first discovered the
aphrodisiac qualities of the plant; over centuries they have
composed many songs praising its wonders and abilities. Indigenous
and local peoples have used catuaba for generations. It is
the most famous of all Brazilian aphrodisiac plants. In the
Brazilian state of Minas there is a saying, “Until a
father reaches 60, the son is his; after that, the son is
catuaba’s!”
In Brazilian herbal medicine today, catuaba is considered
a central nervous system stimulant with aphrodisiac properties;
a bark decoction is used for sexual impotency, agitation,
nervousness, neurasthenia, poor memory or forgetfulness, and
sexual weakness. According to Dr. Meira Penna, catuaba “functions
as a stimulant of the nervous system, above all when one deals
with functional impotence of the male genital organs . . .
it is an innocent aphrodisiac, used without any ill effects
at all.” In Brazil it is regarded as an aphrodisiac
with “proven efficacy” and, in addition to treating
impotence, it is employed for many types of nervous conditions
including insomnia, hypochondria, and pain related to the
central nervous system.
In European herbal medicine catuaba is considered an aphrodisiac
and a brain and nerve stimulant. A bark tea is used for sexual
weakness, impotence, nervous debility, and exhaustion. Herbalists
and health practitioners in the United States use catuaba
in much the same way: as a tonic for genital function, as
a central nervous system stimulant, for sexual impotence,
general exhaustion and fatigue, insomnia related to hypertension,
agitation, and poor memory. According to Michael van Straten,
noted British author and researcher of medicinal plants, catuaba
is beneficial to men and women as an aphrodisiac, but “it
is in the area of sexual dysfunction that the most striking
results have been reported” and “there is no evidence
of side effects, even after long-term use.”
